US vs Canada

How come US uni applications are so much different compared to Canada. They have standardizes tests, they focus sm on ec's and supp app, but here in Canada all we got is grades mostly and our issue with that is grade inflation. Why cant our uni appls be similar to the US. i think it would make things simpler and people with actual ambition for a super competitve program would get in rather than someone with js high inflated grades
