I am done waiting for it to finish

I had to plant my squash today!!! It is just getting to be so late and my chicken bedding and food scraps from the last two years still wasn’t broken down even after turning, after a super long time, it was wet, it was balanced, it had all the right conditions but it was so cold all spring that the damn thing just dropped and dropped and still doesn’t look completely broken down.

I said fuck it today. We spread it on top of some hugel beds that have been successful in the past and I dug little holes down into the soil layer and put the squash transplants in.

I just don’t understand what else this pile wanted from me?! It was massive - a big beautiful bin made from rough spruce and hemlock boards that my partner milled last year. The coop was cleaned out and dumped in there over the winter and we added tons and tons of kitchen scraps and grass clippings and dry leaves. We turned it, peed on it, watered it. It dropped in level by over half. But it still kinda looks like it isn’t done.

I am so tired. lol
