Nuclear HIDA scan and breastfeeding
Just saw my GI doctor. Explained everything Ive been dealing with. The NP said she wants to do a HIDA test, I said yes sounds like a plan. My ultrasound was inconclusive and we both agreed that its not the best diagnosis tool for everyone. I had said I was concerned about sludge build up. I think that each attack Ive had the sludge was able to pass. The longest attack was 3 hours. Last attack I went to the ER for lingering discomfort. Bloodwork showed no elevated values. The NP and I agreed that a short attack like the ones Ive had wouldnt cause blood values to elevate because it didnt cause a true blockage. I left the clinic, sat in my car, and it hit me that I wont be able to breastfeed my son for at minimum 24 hours following the procedure. The NP had forgotten Im breastfeeding. I didnt even realize it has to be nuclear until I reread the order. Hes 11 months old and I fought so hard to breastfeed him. Between being labeled failure to thrive, the toll on my mental health, and the constant second guessing my choices it was a hell of a journey with him. Yes its only 24 hours or so but Im still gutted and stressed about it. Idk how Im going to get him to sleep at night. He wont take a bottle and is not ready to wean anyways. Yes he will be 100% ok and my husband is more than capable of helping me and managing him. Im just worried that this will cause an inadvertent weaning. Idk if anyone can relate or understand my position. I guess it really just comes down to me needing this testing and how this is going to affect my son.
