CMV: Swain is a subpar midlaner relative to other midlaners.

CMV:

A midlaner need 2 of 3 things in to be viable and meta.

1- good waveclear/wave management capacity
2- tools to roam around
3- kill potential.

For example, Talon is great at roaming and killing.
Lux is good at clearing and killing, and her range is useful around the lane.
Sion/TwistedFate/Galio are great at clearing waves and roaming with ult.

Ahri is great on all three because she’s an Asian egirl money maker.

So that’s my criteria.

Swain isn’t great at any of clearing, roaming or having any kill potential.

Swain is all skillshot with low damage.
Hes slow and you W won’t do shit if your JG is being jumped by Leeann and Ahri.
And his clear is just alright. Barely. Good help you if there’s a canon in there.

That’s why he’s a mediocre midlaner.

Botlane works because your support helps you compensating one of your three weakness. A Naut will give you target access, a Brand will increase your kill and clear potential.

And Swain’s “jack of all trade master of none” will pretty much always be complementary to your support (unless it’s an enchanter).
