Wooting shipped the 60HE v2 and Background Service. The macros they promised? Still nothing.
About a year ago I posted here about Wooting's lack of real macro support. The original thread is here: https://www.reddit.com/r/WootingKB/comments/1mtyxwz/wootings_macro_support_is_a_joke_wheres_the_real/
To give credit where it's due: one of the founders, u/OhMyOats, replied honestly in that thread, more than once. He explained the Wootomation situation, laid out a plan, and said macro support was still on the roadmap. That kind of direct communication is rare, and I appreciated it.
And to be fair, a lot has actually happened since then. The 60HE v2 launched (Founders campaign on November 6, 2025, first units shipped in December 2025). The Background Service also shipped publicly in Wootility v5.2.1 on December 9, 2025, and it works - CPU stats, volume, Discord status on the Light Indicator. So this is not a "Wooting does nothing" post. Those parts of the roadmap were delivered.
This is specifically about macros. Here is what was said in the original thread, quoted directly:
- "That is still on the roadmap."
- They would "soon add soft macros to keyboard native features, such as hotkeys, repeat, in advanced keys."
- Replying to me directly: "the background service is in the beta, and with 60HE v2 wrapping up soon, we're going to have a look at the next steps for background service. I'll report back."
- And later: "I'll update this post when there are more reliable dates in regards to macro support."
The 60HE v2 has shipped. The Background Service is live. Wootility is now at v5.3.1. But the macro side of that plan has not visibly moved at all. There are still no soft macros (repeat etc.) in Wootility, no integrated macro system the way Corsair, Logitech and Razer offer natively, and Wootomation is still the same separate, abandoned project people complained about a year ago.
And what really gets to me is that this isn't some impossible, resource-heavy feature. Far smaller companies, on keyboards that cost a fraction of a Wooting, have full macro support that just works. They managed it despite being tiny. So it's genuinely hard to understand why a premium, industry-leading board still can't do the one basic thing we keep asking for.
In my original post I said I still loved my board and would keep recommending Wooting. I have to be honest now: I can't do that anymore. I can't recommend a keyboard at this price that's missing a basic feature available on nearly every other brand, no matter how good the hardware is. And it genuinely bothers me to say that, because I wanted to keep recommending these boards.
One fair note: the promised follow-ups never appeared in the old thread, but that is not on Wooting. Reddit auto-archives posts after six months in many subreddits, which locks them so nobody can comment, the founder included. It just means the place those promises were made is now frozen, so I'm continuing here.
So, clearly and respectfully:
- Is macro support actively in development right now, with real internal targets?
- Did the promised soft macros (hotkeys, repeat, advanced keys) ship somewhere I missed?
- Now that the Background Service is public and the 60HE v2 has launched, what happened to the "next steps" and the promised report back? I've kept an eye out on Discord, Reddit, YouTube and the changelogs, and I haven't seen an update on macros anywhere.
- Did the macro priorities survey on Discord lead to anything concrete?
A straight answer - even "not before Q3 2026" - would be far more useful than another open-ended "on the roadmap." And if I've missed a feature that already shipped, point me to it and I'll update this post immediately and gladly go back to recommending these boards.
If macro support matters to you too, an upvote would help keep this visible so it gets a real reply. The goal isn't drama - just one clear, dated answer for everyone who's been waiting.
u/OhMyOats, or anyone on the team responsible for macro development, if you see this, a straight update would mean a lot. Thanks for reading.
