Moving to Germany as an AI/Product Engineer from Nepal Looking for advice

Hi everyone,

I'm originally from Nepal and completed my Computer Science Engineering degree in India. I've been working as an AI Product Engineer for about a year, building AI applications and AI powered products, and I'm planning my next career move.

Germany has been one of the countries I'm seriously considering because of its strong engineering culture, growing AI ecosystem, and large number of international tech companies. I'm trying to understand how realistic it is for someone like me to secure a software engineering or AI engineering role from overseas with visa sponsorship.

I have a few questions for people familiar with the German tech industry:

  • Is it realistic to get hired directly from Nepal or India by a German company?
  • What's the best way to apply LinkedIn, company career pages, recruitment agencies, or another route?
  • Are there any software engineers or AI engineers here who successfully moved to Germany from Nepal or another non EU country? I'd love to hear your experience.
  • Is one year of experience enough, or would it be better to gain another 1,2 years before applying?
  • Which AI/software engineering skills are currently most in demand in Germany?
  • How common is visa sponsorship for experienced software engineers and AI engineers?
  • Is English sufficient for working in Germany's tech industry, or is learning German essential?
  • Any advice on improving my chances of getting interviews from overseas?

I'd really appreciate hearing from anyone who's gone through this process or has experience hiring international candidates.

Thanks in advance!
