I quit my job today and I regret it immediately. I should’ve sucked it up.
I regret quitting my job today
I’ve been working a housekeeping job at a retirement home for 6 months. It was hard work, around 10-15 rooms a day. There was a lot I enjoyed about it though. I only worked 6 hours, it was a five minute commute, the residents were friendly and kind for the most part, and I worked alone most of the day.
4 out of the 6 months I was the only housekeeper employed there. I hauled laundry, scrubbed, vacuumed, dusted, mopped, shampooed, all the regular housekeeping duties. I also unclogged sinks, one of which was filled with puke all the way down the pipes. I picked up the turds of people who couldn’t make it to the restroom. I scrubbed diarrhea out of clothes, I even helped to dress and feed residents when CNA’s were short. I felt like I did a lot in my short amount of time, and all without complaint. (To coworkers anyways, I bitched about it to my family once I got home.)
2 months ago, a previous employee was re-hired. She mainly stays on the upper floor to do laundry. I really like her, she’s been a huge help, though she only comes in every other day. Last month, my boss hired her best friend to fill in when the other girl can’t.
I can’t stand this woman. She’s thrice my age, and as dumb as a brick. I tried to give her some grace because she was a new hire and I understand the nerve-wracking feeling of being the new girl. Thing is, since she is the boss’s bestie, she feels entitled to bossing me around. Not in a polite “hey can you please do this for me” way. Rather, “I need you to do this now.”
Which pissed me off.
Anyways, today I was taking a 15 minute break in the cleaning closet. The boss’s bestie asks what I’m doing, and I tell her I’m just fiddling around. Her response is “you shouldn’t do that on the clock.”
Which I agree with. Except I was on my 15 minute break. 5 minutes later I get this exact text: (names changed bc even tho I’m mad at these people, they don’t deserve their names to be put out there)
Hey sorry \[Nice Person\] didn’t come today but \[Boss’s Bestie\] is there to help the staff has expressed some concerns that \[bestie\] has been busy doing alot of things by herself please stay on task doing housekeeping needs!! \[Front Desk Person\]and I have had a few concerns brought to us lately so please stay busy with tasks not personal needs that can wait till your off the clock
Thanks
I got very emotional, and quit on the spot. I shouldn’t have, and especially not the way I did. I texted my dad to get some advice, telling him I was hesitant to throw this away. His response was “they threw you away.” So I stormed into my boss’s office and confronted her. I said harsh words which I regret, and left the building.
Now I don’t have a job, and I’m probably gonna spend the next 6-8 months hunting for one.
Maybe I’ll go to trade school with the money I have saved up.
It was stupid and impulsive to quit.
