The biggest crime of Supergirl.

Supergirl

The music. Not the needle drops. The score itself. I just rewatched Superman and throughout the movie part of the reason why I enjoy it is because the music is epic. It shows triumphant or a song you can hum and that’s not even including the fact it’s based off the Reeves films.

Had I think the score been better it would have helped the movie hit harder. I liked the movie but I can’t tell you one thing about the score or sound because it didn’t impact me. When I hear or remember movie music I remember specific scenes and the emotions you feel about it being epic. It makes you feel sad, happy, proud, tense. Some of the beats didn’t hit because the music was lackluster. Music can’t save a movie but it sure can help. Had the movie had better score part of me thinks it would have been reviewed better and more on par with more recent super hero entries. One of the things people are reviewing is that it’s just forgettable. Not that it’s bad. But it just doesn’t stand out. Movie music doesn’t seem like an issue but you don’t know how much it impacts a viewer and the way they watch movies.

Side note: I wanted the movie to go further into its themes. I think they could have really done a lot by highlighting the true disgust of trafficking which I think would have driven the stakes higher without constantly depowering her. My biggest gripe other than the music with the film wasn’t the messages, it’s that it didn’t go far enough in what they were doing well.
