Looking for affordable/pro bono asylum lawyers in Houston and some hope
I’m looking for recommendations for affordable or pro bono immigration attorneys in the Houston area who have experience handling defensive asylum cases.
My individual asylum hearing is scheduled for late August before Judge Nicholle M. Hempel, and my claim is based on political opinion.
I’ve been overwhelmed after reading about Houston’s asylum denial rates and my judge’s historical statistics. I know every case is different, but it’s hard not to feel like the odds are against me.
My fear of returning is very personal. I believe there are individuals and families in my country who want to kill me because of my political opinion and the events that led me to seek asylum. That’s why this hearing means everything to me.
If anyone knows of attorneys or nonprofit organizations that take asylum cases for reduced fees or pro bono, I’d really appreciate the recommendations.
Also, if you’ve had your asylum case approved in Houston—especially a political opinion case or a case before Judge Hempel—I would truly appreciate hearing your experience. I’m not asking anyone to predict my outcome. I just need to know that people still succeed and that there is still hope, even in a difficult court.
Thank you so much to anyone willing to share advice or point me in the right direction.
