Blocked my RuPay CC after just 2 months. A warning about losing control of your finances.

Planning

Just wanted to share my recent experience because it was a bit of a wake-up call for me.

For context, I make around ₹79k a month and I've always been pretty disciplined with my money. I invest heavily—about ₹35k to ₹40k goes straight into equities. Besides that, ₹9k goes to my diet, ₹6.5k for rent, and I keep a ₹5k–₹10k buffer for travel, as I make it a point to go on at least one trek or trip every month. The rest is just regular expenses.

Two months ago, I got a RuPay credit card. The plan was simple: I just wanted to use it to pay my daily diet bills so my main bank statement wouldn't be cluttered with tiny transactions.

But honestly, once I started using it, something changed. My expenses just got bigger without me even realizing it. It started eating into my savings and made me lose the tight hold I had on my salary and my investments. Having that card literally killed my thinking power. You just stop feeling the friction of spending, and you lose control over your finances—which is the most crucial part of staying on track.

I realized it was messing with my habits, so I blocked it for daily use.

Now, I have a strict rule. I only use a credit card to buy things above ₹10k (like my parents' health insurance premium) just to get the reward points. And the second I make that payment, I immediately transfer the exact same amount from my bank account to the credit card. That way, the money is gone from my account and I never feel like I'm in debt.

Bottom line: Please be careful with credit cards, especially for daily expenses. They kill your financial discipline and make you lose control. Keep your money real.
