How should I exchange belongings with my ex who I did not end on good terms with?

I broke up with my boyfriend a month ago and moved back home after living with him for a month. To make a long story short, I did not feel safe and needed to get away from him. When I broke up with him he said some awful things to me, threatened to call the police, tried to control who was allowed to help me move my stuff out of his house. After I finally moved all my stuff out, I blocked him for a week but felt insanely guilty about it and unblocked him. He called me and impulsively answered and he asked about some of his things he thought I might have. I let him know I wasn’t sure at the time and that I can check and get back to him. He texted me “wanting to talk to rectify things” but I was so shaken up still and even just texting him I was sweating.

After the texting conversation, I blocked him again. That was about three weeks ago. I just recently found his things he was asking about and I have been a wreck ever since. I don’t have the strength or courage to face him and talk to him. I feel like I just moved out, broke up with him, and blocked him and I feel sick about it when I think how much I hurt him by leaving. But I fought so hard for so long and he was not a safe person for me. I didn’t think any sort “closure” was real with him especially based off how he handled conflict to begin with.

Anyway, my friend is offering to contact him for me and arrange something. But I just feel like a coward. I’m afraid of reaching out and getting set back. I’m just wondering what others would suggest to do in this situation and if anyone has had a similar experience? It all hurts my heart so much. I can give further context if needed.

Thank you
