Baldr’s Gambit [Cosmic-Norse Fantasy, 5,000 words]

Moving into proofing stage on the duel POV and sharing the opening chapters (prologue, chapter 1, chapter 2) for fresh eyes and minds on the opening hook.

The prologue is a “promise of things to come” type of opening, followed by the first chapters for each POV following two characters on different sides of a generational war.

Magnar, an aging warrior who’s spent his life as his king and childhood friend’s blade. When a star falls from the sky, he’s sent west to investigate. Only, he can’t shake the feeling he’s being sent somewhere he isn’t meant to return from.

Eleanor, a priestly bureaucrat in service to an immortal queen, whose ordered world shatters the moment that same star falls. She heads west to learn what’s happening to her people, and why the star now haunts her dreams.
