First Weapon Recommendations?

Me & my girlfriend have just turned 18, we live in Nevada so were limited to long guns till 21. Im having someone trustworth teach me safety + how to shoot. As i’m gaining knowledge (not much knowldege and im not gonna buy till im 110% sure im ready) im looking into our first weapons. These will be kept in vehicle & home. Something compact-ish would be nice since both weapons would be transffered from vehicle to home daily until we have a bigger arsenal.

With all this being said what are your recommendations? Along with a why would be super appreciated too!
