How is Season 4 in comparison to Season 3?

I really enjoyed both Season 1 and 2 of Re:Zero, but I was really put off by Season 3. Season 3 was really highly anticipated for me when it first came out, but I ended up not caring for it at all to the point that when Season 4 started airing, I just ignored it and thought that maybe I'd get to it later. If I remember my complaints correctly, I felt that there were little to no stakes, Regulus was an extremely poorly done villain, the musician girl was uncompelling, and there was too much of a focus on action for a show where action isn't really the reason anyone is watching. I'm sure I'm forgetting stuff, but I ended the season very unenthused.

But I opened MAL to update my list and saw that it was randomly at number 2. I don't think MAL ratings are exactly worth taking super seriously, but still being up there after nearly a whole season means it must be doing something right.

All that to ask, is Season 4 more of a return to how Seasons 1 and 2 were? Because I really did enjoy those first two seasons quite a bit. I'm sure my feelings towards Season 3 are exaggerated just from time passing and me not remembering as well the parts I actually did like, but I really didn't like that third season lol. Is the third season an indicator of how the show will be going forward?
