Hello all, my wife and I bought a couch from Facebook marketplace place. We put it in the garage and pretty much as soon as we got it home thought about the possibility of bugs.

We have not brought the couch or the side table into the house yet.

The house we bought it from was clean and was in a nice neighborhood. The couch and the house smelled of elderly people but we don’t think it smelled like bed bugs (not really sure what we are trying to smell for). We have inspected the cushions and the couch as much as possible. On first glance there seems to be some rust marks but upon further inspection there is nothing below those marks that looks like it could have made them from being squished.

I found a couple of what looks like bug shells or remains. We saw some crumbs and what might look like a bed bug egg between the cushions but I could not get a good photo of the eggs. The shells are above.

We are in a heat dome here in the mid west currently. I have wrapped the couch and the side table into plastic and plan to park them in the sun tomorrow. I am thinking that this will act like a green house and boost the temp inside the couch.

I also plan to drap a concrete blanket over top of the items in the height of the heat of the day to not only capture more heat but trap it in place doubly so.

I will record the temps in the bed.

TLDR: have a couch, concerned shells are bed bugs and need confirmation. Also planning to green house heat the couch and side table using plastic and concrete blankets. Will that work?
