Banana pudding cookie I developed in Edgewater, FL

I grew up on classic Southern banana pudding—banana, vanilla wafers, and that cold, creamy pudding that shows up at every cookout and family gathering. I’ve been trying to turn that same experience into a cookie and finally landed on a version I really like, so I figured I’d share the approach here.

The idea behind the cookie

Instead of making “just another banana cookie,” I wanted each bite to feel like banana pudding in cookie form: chewy, soft middle, real banana‑pudding flavor, and that wafer crunch you usually get on top of the bowl.

To get that, I built the recipe around three things:

  • A thick, chewy base so it eats like a bakery‑style cookie rather than cake.
  • Banana pudding flavor (banana plus vanilla) that tastes nostalgic, not like candy banana.
  • Vanilla wafer pieces for crunch and texture contrast.

How I put it together

The base is a rich, buttery dough that can handle mix‑ins without getting dry. I mix in banana flavor and pudding mix for that banana‑vanilla profile, then fold in crushed vanilla wafers and white chocolate chips.

A few technique things that made a big difference for me:

  • I keep the dough on the thicker side and avoid too much extra liquid, so it stays chewy instead of turning into a cakey cookie.
  • I don’t crush the wafers to dust—leaving some small chunks gives actual crunch instead of just “sweet crumbs.”
  • I bake until the edges are set and the center is just barely done, then let them finish on the tray so they stay soft in the middle.

The end result eats like a dessert bar crossed with a cookie: soft center, lightly crisp edges, and little surprise wafer bits in almost every bite.

What it tastes like

Flavor‑wise, it’s very close to banana pudding: ripe banana notes, smooth vanilla from the pudding mix, sweetness from the white chocolate, and the familiar wafer crunch. People who’ve tried it say it reminds them of potlucks and family desserts where the banana pudding is the first thing to disappear.

I’m based in Edgewater, Florida, and this has turned into the cookie friends and neighbors ask me for the most, so I’m curious how it stacks up against other banana pudding‑style cookies people have tried.

If anyone’s interested, I can write out the exact measurements and steps I use, or share some tweaks I’ve tested (different chips, other cookies instead of wafers, etc.).
