[28/m] Did I overreact? (29/f)

I've (28m) had 4 dates with a girl (29f) and we had a pretty explosive sexual connection at first but things are starting to get a bit off track. We had planned to go for a workout together today and hook up after.

As I was getting ready to leave, I noticed that a gift I had ordered for her had arrived, so I decided to bring it with me to the date and surprise her with it. this combined with my poor time management ended up taking a while and I was 30 minutes late. All along I was communicating with her, I apologized, she got started without me which I was completely fine with, and then we ended up having a good workout and it seemed like there were no issues. Towards the end of the workout, she brought up the lateness thing again, and I told her I'd explain later. (The gift was a sex toy she wanted, so I didn't want to explain it right there in the gym because it was a bit awkward--in hindsight, I probably could have just said I was late because I was packing a surprise present for her, but it just didn't occur to me in the moment. She had also already communicated to me that she was uncomfortable with PDA in the gym.).

Then when we got outside, she brought it up again. She was saying that it was very rude, and she was questioning my character. I told her I'd explain when we got to her place. She was also being cold, crossing her arms, and I tried to put my arm around her and she refused. Finally I told her I didn't like the vibe right now, and I caved and told her that I was late because I was packing a present for her. She softened and said it was ok, but by that point I told her I didn't like how she was communicating with me and that I was just going to go home. She didn't really say anything, didn't hug me and just kinda walked away with a weird face.

I probably could have handled this better but curious what people here think.

To add a little bit of context--she's been acting pretty possessive, she kinda scolded me on our last date because I posted a photo of myself social dancing at an event with another girl. We had a talk about exclusivity after our last date and I told her I had been on a date with another girl but I hadn't slept with anyone else.

tl;dr: I'm seeing a new girl and decided to go home instead of sleeping with her because of the way she seemed to cut off affection over an issue I thought was minor and already-resolved
