How do I get better w Pac-Man

I picked up the game again recently completely washed around three months ago and took a liking to pac. Now that I’ve played him more I realize I’m only good at him when I’m playing w 2+ others (fire hydrant and smash attack or side b, yes very annoying) and not as much on 1s. Any suggestions to utilize his moveset better ?? thanks
