One thing I didn't expect about selling in the US was how contract discussions happen
I moved from India to the US earlier this year for an Account Executive role, and one adjustment I didn't expect was how differently contract conversations play out.
Back home, once a customer showed serious interest, there was usually a bit more back and forth before anyone expected a signature. It wasn't unusual to spend time discussing terms, checking internally, or revisiting details before moving forward.
Here, I've had a few prospects ask about sending the agreement much earlier than I expected. On one deal, I thought we were still exploring requirements when the buyer asked if we could get legal involved and send over the paperwork.
It caught me off guard because I assumed we still had a few conversations left before talking contracts.
My teammates told me it's pretty common in the US to start the legal or procurement process early, even if some commercial details are still being worked out. It seems like people would rather keep the paperwork moving than wait until every question has been answered.
For anyone else who moved into US sales, was this an adjustment for you too? Did you eventually get comfortable with it, or do you still find yourself waiting longer than your customers expect?
