Outfield Alternatives

Blake Dunn and Dane Myers are both out for likely quite some time. TJ Friedl is not a permanent solution or good enough to be an everyday starter anymore (I know I’ll catch flak for this statement- let me have it). Let’s talk alternatives.

Option 1.) Noelvi Marte slots in CF, promote Hector the hit collector in RF. Friedl is the backup 4th infielder.

Benefit: you get another bat in the lineup possibly until it doesn’t work. Give HROD some MLB reps. He either proves it, or doesn’t until Blake Dunn returns. Already on 40 man roster.

Con: Noelvi Marte is not a good CF, will suffer on defense.

Option 2.) Carlos Jorge promoted directly from AA. Friedl as 4th OF.

Benefit: he’s an above average CF, has speed, high contact hitter.
Con: he’s not on the 40 man roster yet (but Benson can be a casualty imo let the hate flow please lol). Also, only been at AA which might stunt his natural growth path.

Option 3.) Promote Benson, alternate starts with Freidl.

Benefit: has mlb experience, already on 40 man. Decent defense and speed.
Con: bat has proven AAAA quality, unfortunately similar position as Friedl

Personally I would be okay with the first or second option. I don’t see any issue with allowing our actual future prospects/players getting some reps at the MLB level when injuries arise. Let them prove it. If failure, easy option back to the minors when proven players return from the IL.

I’m more against the same failed veterans filling in (e.g. Benson, Friedl..). They have no path in future plans with the team. Friedl’s legs just don’t move anymore. Then both Friedl and Benson just haven’t been able to hit over the Mendoza line which is unacceptable at the majors.
