New relationship with BF who CDs, asking for advice.
My boyfriend and I have been together for about two months. A few weeks ago, he opened up to me about some of his past. He told me he’s been into things like pegging, female domination, feminization, and dressing as a woman. At the time, he said those were things from his past that he didn’t want to bring into a relationship and that he was trying to leave behind, so we didn’t really go much deeper into it.
A few weeks later, I was at his apartment after he left for work. While I was getting dressed to leave, I noticed women’s clothes and shoes in his open closet. I ended up snooping (which I know wasn’t the right thing to do), and I found makeup, lingerie, nail glue, hair glue, and other feminine items. I knew they weren’t another woman’s—they were his. I think what shocked me wasn’t that he had told me before, but realizing the extent of it.
I confronted him, and after a difficult start, we ended up having a really honest conversation. He told me it has become an addiction over the last five years. He said he doesn’t want it in his relationship and is actively trying to put it behind him. I asked him whether that’s actually sustainable and how I could support him. He genuinely believes it’s something he’s slowly moving away from.
One thing that’s been bothering me is that we really haven’t been having sex, and I can’t help but wonder if it’s related. He insists that I’m sexually attractive to him and that I’m not the reason for our lack of intimacy.
I also asked him the questions that immediately came to mind. Does he want to transition? He said no and told me he’s already explored that possibility and knows that’s not who he is. He says he wants a serious relationship, wants a family, and wants a partner who knows about this part of his life while he works to leave it behind.
When I asked why he doesn’t just throw everything away, he admitted he’s not mentally ready to close that door. He said he’s gotten rid of everything before, only to go out and buy it all again later.
I do accept him, and I’m genuinely trying to understand rather than judge him. My biggest question is whether this is actually something someone can move on from, or if it’s something that will always be part of him. I’m struggling to understand what this means for our future together, especially since we both want a long-term relationship and a family.
