Is Uma Musume a very difficult game to understand for a complete newcomer?

I want to recommend the game to a friend, but she doesn't really like games that are too difficult to understand. Is Uma Musume one of those games? For example, does it take more than a week to learn how the basics work? (card system, banners, scenarios, etc.)?
