Why is this game impossible

I’ve tried so many time to play town of Salem after being off the game for a few years . Figured my kids would enjoy it but the amount of tricks and loops I’m having to jump through to make an account is absolutely crazy! Made a browser account but nope can’t play without paying to play . Made a steam account but nope can’t play on steam . wtf can I do ??? This is beyond crazy !
