I woke up today and my Instagram had a Korean name and bio. At first I thought it was some weird glitch, but then I noticed my account had sent Korean investment/crypto messages to random people, followed around 25 Korean accounts, and even read all my unread DMs.

I checked login activity and found an unknown login from Lucknow and another session showing South Korea. The weirdest part is that all my posts were visible for an hour while I was trying to secure the account, and then suddenly every single post disappeared. Thankfully, they were all sitting in Recently Deleted.

The hacker also changed my username, deleted my posts, and basically tried to turn my account into some Korean investment spam account. My email and phone number were still mine though, which probably saved me. Maybe????

I never shared an OTP, never clicked any fake Instagram links, and the only unusual thing I did recently was open a regular youtube link someone sent me, which I'm not sure is related or not.

Has anyone else experienced something similar? The Korean DMs, random follows, deleted posts, and investment spam all seem very specific.

Also, if you haven't enabled Instagram 2FA yet, please do it right now. I genuinely think it prevented my account from being completely taken over
