Who else is addicted?
How many times have you guys rewatched OITNB, and what makes it your favorite show? Because I am about to finish my 5th rewatch and already want to start over and I feel crazy for it. I honestly have no desire to watch anything new, I just want to keep rewatching it never gets old. I am a 21 year old gay man so it has nothing to do with the sexual aspect (aside from some of the male guards being hear me outs…), but I am just obsessed with OITNB.
Most people are confused when I say that this is my favorite show and I get the vibe it is sort of an acquired taste. Almost everyone I speak to says they started to watch but couldn’t get into it.
I feel like a freak for calling it a comfort show considering that there are so many heartbreaking moments. I just love how complex the characters are and I believe the producers did such an incredible job at painting everybody’s backstories. Id also argue that the show doesn’t force the viewers to like/dislike anybody. Almost all characters in the show have both very good and bad moments, with the exception of characters like Vee and Badison. I come on here and see people hating on characters that I personally love but i think it’s great when a show allows for diverse stances on characters.
The show also covers such a vast range of sociological issues in sometimes devastating and other times satirical ways. As corny as it may sound, this show fully reshaped the way that I see crime and it gave me a lot more sympathy for people who are incarcerated (within reason of course). It is interesting to see people from so many different socioeconomic backgrounds all end up in the same place and it comes to show how so many different life events can lead someone to commit crime.
Last thing is I just love how many characters there are, yet it doesn’t feel overwhelming. Ngl I’m not a huge fan of all of the new cast members from max, I think they’re all a bit corny, but it also allowed for a ton of comedic relief.
