Installing Apple CarPlay on a BYD Yuan Up (Chinese import) — anyone done this

Help - China 🇨🇳

Hey all, I’ve got a BYD Yuan Up that I imported from China, and I’m trying to figure out the best way to get Apple CarPlay working on it. As far as I can tell, the factory infotainment system on the China-market Yuan Up doesn’t come with native CarPlay support (it’s built around Baidu CarLife and similar local ecosystems instead).

A few things I’m trying to figure out:

**•**	Has anyone successfully retrofitted CarPlay on this specific model, or a similar BYD model (Dolphin, Atto 3, Seagull, etc.)?
**•**	Is an aftermarket wireless CarPlay adapter (like Carlinkit or Ottocast) compatible with the stock head unit, or does it need to support Android Auto/CarLife as a base to “bridge” through?
**•**	Would I be better off just replacing the head unit entirely with a generic Android-based aftermarket unit that supports CarPlay out of the box?
**•**	Any wiring/connector quirks specific to BYD’s harness that I should know about before ordering parts?

Appreciate any input from people who’ve worked on BYD infotainment systems or done similar retrofits on other Chinese-market EVs. Photos of your setup would be a huge help too. Thanks!
