1. I believe answer was on the talismans since the begining. We see the Day and Night cycle which is very important to the plot.

7 kids 8 symbols

1. As we know throughout the show Tabitha and Jade on their previous lives, saved their own child instead of sacrificing him. And thats why talismans has 8 grave symbols but we see only 7 children were sacrificed. The town people made a deal with an entity but because of Jade and Tabitha town never fullfilled the contract and because of that town people turned into monsters and the Fromville was created.

Christopher went crazy

1. The puppet was BiW and told Christopher the answer. Sacrificing Victor because Victor/Ethan/Previous children of Tabitha and Jade was supposed to be sacrificed but Christopher couldnt sacrifice Victor and knowing everyone is going to die drove him crazy. Thats why we see BiW telling ''I tried to tell them answers but it didnt work''. Because BiW knows Jimmy and Tabitha would never sacrifice Ethan. So BiW changed strats. Instead of sacrificing Ethan he is trying to turn back from the contract.

Moderator in Yellow

As we all see throughout the show, monsters has superiour powers compared to BiW and town. For them it would be super easy to kill everyone before even giving them a chance. But all they want is making Tabitha and Jade to fullfill the contract thats why everytime they try to make move to escape MiY prevents them. He doesnt want to crush the hope of towns people, he wants to crush every hope of escaping and saving children because his purpose is making them sacrifice Ethan so he resets the town when he realizes Tabitha/Jade or previous versions of them are going to save the children instead of completing the deal.
