Pain comes in waves throughout the day. Can anyone else relate?

I've had migraine my whole life and had what I'm told is an intractable/medication resistant migraine for the last 5 years.
The pain is always there and just changes in intensity almost by the hour.
Does anyone else experience this? And if so are you told it's still just migraine.
I'm just curious if I'm missing something.
