Mandaluyong City Confirms Local Mpox Case; Disease Surveillance and Containment Measures Activated
On 30 June 2026, the Mandaluyong City Government has confirmed a locally acquired case of mpox, prompting the immediate activation of established public health surveillance and disease containment protocols. Confirmation by the Mandaluyong City Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit (CESU) followed the circulation of an unofficial property management advisory from a residential condominium through social media, which generated public concern. In response, CESU clarified that the case is being managed in close coordination with the Mandaluyong City Health Office and the Department of Health (DOH) Regional Epidemiology and Health Statistics Section to ensure timely implementation of epidemiological interventions and coordinated risk management.
Pursuant to established communicable disease control procedures, local health authorities immediately initiated comprehensive case investigation, intensive contact tracing, localized risk assessment, and continuous monitoring of identified close contacts to prevent further transmission. Authorities likewise emphasized adherence to official government information channels and reiterated the necessity of protecting patient confidentiality in accordance with public health ethics and applicable privacy regulations to prevent discrimination, misinformation, and unnecessary public alarm. The CESU further committed to maintaining transparent and evidence-based public advisories as the epidemiological assessment progresses.
Despite the confirmed local case, the DOH emphasized that the national epidemiological situation remains stable. According to DOH surveillance data, a total of 55 confirmed mpox cases were recorded nationwide from 4 January to 13 June 2026, representing a 79-percent decrease compared with the 205 cases reported during the corresponding period in 2025. The DOH further clarified that the current epidemiological profile does not indicate the existence of an outbreak or an increasing transmission trend, noting that sporadic cases continue to occur without evidence of sustained community transmission.
Health authorities reiterated that mpox is transmitted primarily through prolonged close physical contact, direct exposure to infectious skin lesions or bodily fluids, and contact with contaminated materials such as clothing and bedding. The disease is not generally considered airborne under normal community settings. As a preventive measure, the public is advised to observe proper hand hygiene, avoid close contact with individuals exhibiting unexplained skin lesions or rashes, practice respiratory etiquette, and seek immediate medical evaluation upon experiencing symptoms consistent with mpox, including fever, chills, headache, myalgia, lymphadenopathy, and the onset of characteristic skin lesions. This version adopts a formal, objective, and technical style suitable for intelligence reports, government situation reports, or policy briefs.
