Upcoming specialist appointment

My tmj pain got really bad recently so out of desperation I got a mouth guard from the chemist. It's not particularly comfortable but it has helped with the muscle tension. I have an appointment tomorrow and I'm wondering if I should forgo wearing it tonight to give a more realistic idea of the muscle tension. Obvious downside of that is it risks further damage to my teeth.
