My (F25) boyfriend (M34) doesn’t enjoy the things I do, but I try so hard to enjoy his things.
Hey guys,
I’m mainly writing because I’m frustrated and need to be heard without it starting an argument.
My mom is visiting and this is her second night here. She goes back home tomorrow (she lives 1.5 hours away and I don’t see her as often as I’d like). While she’s been here, he has spent 0 time with us. Like, not for meals, not for shopping, nothing. All he wants to do is stay home and do his own thing. Fine. I try not to start arguments because they blow off the handle sometimes and I don’t want my mom to be around that.
Long story short, after not seeing him much the past few days, I asked if he’d want to maybe shower with me so we could have intimate time together. I don’t even mean sexually, like just being close and feeling together. I always enjoy showering with him and it definitely doesn’t happen often. He looked annoyed and pointed to the comic he had been reading all day with a video game on his second monitor. I tried to explain that I thought it would be nice to do something together and he said “we always do something together” when we really don’t. When I’m not working or focusing on grad school, I’m taking care of our 14 month old son which is definitely a lot more than work/school.
Idk, do you guys have any advice? And I don’t mean I want to hear about the age gap because yes, I know. But a friend had unintentionally mislead both of us about our ages and we genuinely thought we were the same age at first. My main thing is, do you guys have experience with wanting affection and being shoved aside for hobbies that already take up most of their time? What did you do?
I know this probably came out all boggled and weird but my mind is so scrambled and I just genuinely feel hurt by how little he seemed to care and how easily he brushed it off. Because I know if I did that, he’d be a little sad.
Note: we’ve been together for five years.
