20 (M) and never been in a relationship
Idk why but I’ve never been in a relationship before. I just finished my second year of university and it feels like I’m so behind. Everyone I know has been in a relationship before. I don’t care about the fact that I havnt actually been intimate with a girl yet or kissed anyone, but I’m more insecure about my lack of experience. I feel like if I do meet someone, I won’t measure up to the other options available since I have no dating, sex or relationship experience. I feel like I wouldn’t even know where to start when it comes to flirting with a girl at the bar or clubs.
I’d like to think I’m normal and that it’s just the fact that I haven’t tried enough. I had like high school talking stages (I know…) that was mostly always the girl reaching out first. Even in first year uni I had a girl ask me out. I don’t think it’s that I’m ugly but maybe that I’m just too awkward sometimes and I don’t have the experience to handle dating or romantic interactions smoothly. And probably the fact that Ive never really tried to ask anyone out before.
For example the girl I went out with in first year uni, I was just so akward and felt out of place like I didn’t know what to do. I think we were two very different people and would not have worked out anyways but still it was a really discouraging experience for me and I felt bad for her since I think she was expecting something else.
I’m aware that 20 isn’t that late, but does it really make dating that much harder if you’ve never been in a relationship at this point? Also I would love to hear about anyone’s experience dating as an early 20 year old who never had before.
