Non Traditional Applicant Looking for a Mentor and Guidance for UCalgary Medicine

Application Review 🧐

Hi everyone,
I’m a non traditional medical school applicant planning to apply to the University of Calgary next year, and I’m honestly looking for a little guidance and encouragement.
I have a Bachelor’s and a Master’s in Biochemistry, have completed research during both degrees, and have one published paper. My master’s research was also published. I’ve also spent the last 7 to 8 years working across different careers, from being a Sales Manager to working in IT, and I currently work as a Tech Lead in Platform Administration.
Choosing to leave a career I’ve built and pursue medicine has been one of the biggest and scariest decisions I’ve made. I’m preparing for the MCAT, but I know there’s so much more to a strong application, and I’m finding it overwhelming trying to figure everything out on my own.
I’m hoping to connect with anyone, especially a non traditional applicant or current medical student, who would be willing to share their experience, offer advice, or simply mentor me through the process. Even knowing what I should be doing now to prepare would mean a lot.
If you’ve been in a similar position or are willing to help, I’d be incredibly grateful. Thank you so much.
