Setup help on stock tank
We got our 100-gallon Rubbermaid stock tank over the weekend. Our primary goal is to grow water lilies, with a few small goldfish as well.
We're not too concerned about the goldfish outgrowing the tank because, in the past, they rarely lived longer than two years. Some also didn't survive the winter, so we've only purchased inexpensive goldfish.
We set up the tank in a partially sunny location, but we can easily move the patio umbrella to give it full sun if needed.
We could use some advice on the following:
- We currently have one bare-root water lily from Amazon. We planted it in a 1-gallon pot and submerged it in the tank. Since the weekend, it has started growing two tiny leaves.
- We're trying to choose a filter. Would a solar-powered filter be sufficient, or would we be better off installing a standard electric filter? We may need to have an electrician add an outdoor outlet near the tank.
- Do we need an air pump or aerator? If so, could you recommend a good model?
- We plan to add pea gravel and some driftwood later to provide hiding places for the fish.
- Is there anything else you would recommend for a healthy, low-maintenance setup?
Thank you!
