Eb1a: definition of area of expertise for job changing in USA?
Hi everyone,
I have an approved EB-1A I-140. I can't file my I-485 yet because my priority date isn't current.
I'm considering changing jobs. My current company is in the renewable energy, which is a dying industry in US. There is not much long-term stable options for me to either stay with the company or in another company in the same field until I receive my green card. And companies are mostly reluctant to sponsor H1b
I started as a scientist and transitioned into a Technical Program Manager role. Now I'm looking to move into the semiconductor industry, where I think there are more long-term opportunities. Since both renewable energy and semiconductors are part of advanced manufacturing in the U.S., would this generally be considered the same field of expertise for immigration purposes?
My EB-1A petition was based on my material science and energy storage work. How risky would it be to switch industries before I receive my green card (or submit 485)? Has anyone made a similar transition while waiting for their priority date to become current?
I'd really appreciate any advice or personal experiences.
