When is too late to apply

I was originally planning to take my DAT on July 15, but I honestly don’t feel ready enough. I’m considering pushing it back so I have more time to study and give myself the best chance of getting a strong score.

I was wondering: when is the latest I should apply to dental schools without putting myself at a significant disadvantage?

I’m feeling very stressed because I already have a 4.0 GPA and really want the rest of my application to reflect the same level of effort. I don’t want to rush into taking the DAT before I’m prepared, but I also don’t want to hurt my chances by applying too late.

For those who have been in a similar situation, what would you recommend? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
