Just looking for help anywhere I can find it
I have recently bought a project boat that came with a 25hp Nissan outboard (NS25C2) I’ve been trouble shooting with it for the last few weekend with not a ton of luck. I changed the ignition switch, spark plugs, new battery, cleaned the carburetor, cleaned fuel filter/fuel line, and taken apart other components and checked for resistance. The original ignition switch was fried and for the mean time while a new one came on Amazon I tried it with a generic automotive ignition switch only wiring the power, ignition and ground and that kicked the starter on. It had good compression when pull starting. I was not getting spark though. Once the new marine ignition switch came in I wired it up and now the starter doesn’t come up but it sounds like the solenoid is clicking. Still no spark when cranking with new spark plugs. I took a multimeter to the wires around the engine and I was getting the proper resistance from the cdi but not from the fly wheel. From the manual based on the reading the exciter coil needs to be replaced. I am wondering if there is something obvious I’m missing or if simply changing the exciter coil will somehow fix my starting problem. The first video attached is the new marine switch attached and no starter engagement with the clicking noise.
The second video is the automotive switch and the starter being engaged. Any sort of help or insight is greatly appreciated thank you!
