Introducing Solids - One Twin with a Possible Food Allergy
Hi!
Parent of 6 month old twins and just starting purees/solids. We've been slowly introducing common allergens - one common allergen each weekend because I want there to be two adults at home in case of a reaction. I'm concerned one of my babies had a mild reaction to egg on the second exposure, as none of the other foods were new that weekend. I called my GP the next morning and asked for advice, he concluded that we should wait to see an allergist before trying egg with her again. Unfortunately, where we live we will have to wait months to see an allergist.
Not asking for medical advice - but asking for any practical tips or advice for navigating a possible allergy in one twin but not the other. It's my understanding that it's important we continue giving egg to the baby who did not have a reaction, but I am having a difficult time figuring out how this works logistically. I'm usually the only adult giving the babies solids at the same time, they're throwing spoons into the floor and food is splattering everywhere. One baby throws food with egg on the ground, then the second baby throws their spoon on top of that and it's contaminated. My hands are covered in their food from picking spoons off the floor or helping them pick foods off their high chair trays. And then there's the fact that they're 6 months old and stick everything in their mouths, so even if I work hard to avoid cross contamination in the kitchen/at feeding times, they still share toys and usually end up chewing on each other's hands.
Do I just suck it up and feed them at separate times on days that we are giving egg to one baby? Any other advice? Very curious to hear from anyone who has navigated a similar situation with their multiples.
Thanks!
