Representation in media is actually maybe not that good for humanity
I think seeing ourselves reflected in the media we consume can at times be very bad and lead to delusional thinking.
I understand that the thread of “representation matters” maybe originated in good faith as an effort to diversify western media in line with overall demographic changes in the US/other western countries. I don’t think that’s an issue in and of itself.
However, I think demanding inclusivity, representation, whatever, from corporations/products/celebrities also subconsciously enforces an understanding of entertainment and consumerism as a political tool/ means of liberation. It just further ties people on an emotional level to these institutions that are fundamentally corrupt.
Idk I just hate political grifting from celebrities, public figures, and corporations so much. And by extension the way it’s caused average people to completely miss the plot with this kind of thing. The plot being that such entities are the problem not the solution.
