On the 29th, the Japan Sumo Association announced the new banzuke for the Nagoya Basho. Daiseizan (Arashio), who has made his debut in the top division, held a press conference alongside his stablemaster, Arashio Oyakata (former Maegashira Sōkokurai), at the stable’s dormitory in Nagoya. Daiseizan smiled and said, “I’m genuinely happy. I’m grateful to my stablemaster for helping me reach the top division.”

Although he had been ranked near the top of the Jūryō division for the past five tournaments, he was unlucky with his banzuke placement and had been stuck in a rut, unable to advance to the top division. “I’ve been in Jūryō for about two years and just couldn’t seem to move up. I think there were various areas where I was lacking, so I want to continue refining those. As for the reason I was able to reach Makuuchi, I think it’s because I’ve reduced the number of times I pull or slap my opponent during a match,” he said.

His coach, Arashio—who is also from China—commented on his disciple’s promotion to Makuuchi: “I’m very happy that the second Makuuchi wrestler from our region has been born. As for the fact that it took two years after he reached Jūryō, I had thought he’d make it in about a year, so I wondered if it would really take this long. His strengths are his large frame and flexibility. I’ve been telling him to wrestle in a way that capitalizes on those strengths, but he tends to get pushed back too often and hasn’t been able to effectively counter skilled opponents. He also needs to work on his mental toughness going forward,” he added, expressing his hopes for further growth.

Regarding his goals in the makuuchi division, Daiseizan said enthusiastically, “I aim to win double-digit matches. I want to wrestle aggressively, using my physique to my advantage.”
