Fort Collins Subreddit Negativity

I have a genuine question for the Fort Collins subreddit. and just full disclosure I am using voice to text, because I find it easier to get my thoughts across and Grammarly only to help organize those thoughts.

Over the last year, I’ve noticed that this subreddit has become increasingly negative, particularly towards those who may not share a narrow viewpoint. Is this due to the election year or the general uncertainty within our community and nation? I’m asking because I want to understand how to foster better conversations and discourse in real life.

I’m curious about how many individuals posting on Reddit would be willing to share their thoughts under their real names. Who would be open to grabbing a cup of coffee or a beer with me to discuss our agreements and disagreements? I find myself becoming more hesitant to post or comment due to the increasing negativity, especially towards conservative viewpoints.

So, simply put, what do you think has caused this shift? How can we get back to a place where, in years past, conversations and discourse were more communicative and nuanced rather than negative and aggressive? I understand that some might downvote or respond negatively to this post, but I would appreciate a constructive dialogue. Ultimately, I’m looking to gain insight into what is driving the negativity on Reddit and social media in general.
