Spat on by another driver after a road rage incident – I have clear video evidence. What happens next?
Hi all, looking for some advice on what I can realistically expect to happen here.
I was driving on a very narrow road and came around a bend to find an oncoming car approaching. There was only enough room for one vehicle to pass. There was an empty space nearby where the other driver could have pulled in to let me through, but instead he deliberately blocked me and gestured for me to reverse.
To avoid escalating the situation, I reversed. As he drove past, he stopped next to my window, said a few words in broken English, and then spat at me.
What he didn’t realise was that my car has cameras that record high-quality video, including from the side pillars. The entire incident was captured clearly, including his registration plate and the act of spitting.
I called 999 immediately and explained what had happened, including that I had video evidence. The officer I spoke to was very helpful and said someone would follow up. However, it’s now been over a week and I’ve heard nothing.
What can I realistically expect to come from this? My understanding is that spitting on someone could amount to common assault, and given that there’s clear video evidence, I’m wondering whether this is likely to result in any action, such as a caution, fine, or prosecution.
Thanks in advance
