Not sure what to do career wise
I started working at the clinic Im at about 8/9 months ago as basically a kennel tech because I have no background or experience in this field at all (genuinely didnt think theyd hire me but the owner thought i was funny and kind and gave me a chance). I live in a state that doesnt require licensure to be a vet tech just proficiency on skills (i feel weird about this and im debating on going to some sort of online school because my on the job training has been lackluster at best)
ive accidentally become kind of important at this clinic because our turn over rate is very high so me and like 2? other people are the longest employed ones here and like idk. ive been given a lot of responsibilities that feel out of my title and pay range, i and the other person whos been here a while kinda got swept into team lead roles without an actual promotion or conversation, just because we were already handling a lot of higher responsibility? at least for where im actually at as a vet assistant of 8ish months lol (scheduling, logging and reviewing controlled drugs, handling invoices and financial charges, making training plans for other employees, random admin tasks and projects, inventory, etc.)
this all being said, we have 1 vet, and we had some relief vets for him because we are an urgent/er clinic, and slowly those have dwindled because one was having health issues, and one was opening their own clinic soon which is cool! but they also offered me a job at their new clinic??? while still technically employed for my main vet? promising better pay, hours, and appreciation because they dont feel like i am appreciated here as much as i should be which is very kind but it feels all weird. i dont think i want to work for them for personal (not bad) reasons but it has made me question a lot of things bc this clinic is the only one ive ever worked at and i dont know if things are going the way they should be 🧍🏻♂️ a lot of things have been changing lately, and i love the vet i work for, the environment is okay but because this state doesnt require licensure, this clinic says they prefer to hire people without experience so they can be trained how the clinic wants them but bc of the turnover, the only people who kinda know what were doing is roughly me and 3 other people, me and 2 of them having only been here for 8 months with that otj training and the other dude has been here a year and a half, also on the job no background in vet med.
i dont really know where im going with this but the only people i know in this field i work with and i cant really discuss this with them as much for obvious reasons lol but any insight or commentary would be helpful. i care about animals and i like what i do, but i want to know what im doing and i wanna be doing it for the right place.
any advice? also i dont know if ppl i work with lurk here thats why im being a bit vague so if you want more details or have specific questions, youre also welcome to DM me about it lol
