Feeling alienated after a conversation with my coworkers about the PlayStation news

Society/Culture

A coworker of mine was angry over the news about PlayStation no longer producing physical disks and I commented that I don't think it's all bad because it'll reduce plastic production. A couple of my teammates joined in and nobody wanted to acknowledge my POV as even somewhat valid. They all feel absolutely entitled to own as much physical media as they please.

While I do agree that this move from PS can be seen as anti-consumer, does every individual person really need to have their own copy of a game/movie? Tons of people without even basic necessities in the world and this is what angers people, not being able to hoard plastic disks? Just on the off chance that the media could be taken away from them one day?

It's just entertainment at the end of the day, but plastic pollution kills and oil demand drives warfare.

I couldn't call my coworkers entitled, of course, so I didn't say much beyond my first comment. Showed me how hard it can be to actually speak up about this stuff, but I hope that maybe I planted a seed.
