Tips on Wise, and Remitly as a Back-Up
I still use Wise over Remitly, in general, but here's some notes below. The problem, of course arises when you really need the money like right now, and then there's a hitch.
If I throw the money into my linked Wise account just as I am ready to do it, it will reject it, or say it will take "days."
I found that waiting awhile (half hour) works mostly.
Today, what worked was just restarting my phone, and clearing my cache. It then switched from "days" to "seconds."
However, one time, it said "seconds," and it took days.
Another time, the transfer went through, and I received my local currency, but later they said the funds weren't available, even though they were. And I had to make a separate transfer to "Savings," and it took a lot of text time and a couple days before that issue was settled. Pain. And I've never been able to re-link that bank account with Wise, even though I did nothing wrong.
On the other hand, I've never had a
single issue with Remitly.
It says "seconds," and it actually arrives in seconds- every time.
With Remitly, I had to set up with my debit card. (The debit card option with Wise is not good.)
Remitly takes US $2 extra out of my SEND account for each transaction. So to compare your final amount with Wise, you plug in $2 less into Remitly.
The downside:
The final amount is a few dollars less than Wise - like for $1K, for example.
(Where I am now, that difference would pay for a good hamburger and a small beer.)
But, anyway, Remitly is simply a back-up for me. For small transfers, I don't even bother comparing, and just use Remitly.
Finally, Remitly's exchange rate jumps up significantly at the $1K line (so $999 does not make sense).
