Got called racial slurs for a game
So, this happened in Overwatch on two different occasions
For those who don't know, Overwatch is a hero shooter where the point is either capture an objective or push a payload to the end (while the other team prevents you from doing so)
In the first match, I had my cousins over while I was playing. I didn't notice that my mic was on and my cousins were speaking loudly in Arabic (our native language). When I realized, I quickly apologized and closed my mic; but not before being called an "F-ing m-nkey". By that time, we had already lost the first objective, so I lost focus and did some dumb stuff. I got called a m-nkey again and then went on to focus more. I was playing a support character and literally the person I saved most was Torbjorn
Not before long, that same Torbjorn started calling me an Indian for my accent (my accent isn't even Indian and not that strong). I politely corrected that, saying I wasn't even Indian. He doubled down and started mocking the Indian accent, acting as if he was speaking in it. He then went on to throw (intentionally play badly) all of round 2 then blame me
In the second instance, I played round one mostly as a support, not getting many kills. We did horribly in the first round. I switched to a DPS and got a few kills. I then got called out for my K:D ratio. I explained that I was a support most of the round and didn't get many kills over the mic. Soemone told me to "shut up Indian labubu". I, again, explained that I wasn't Indian. Another person went on the mic and impersonated an Indian accent mockingly. I told that it "must be really funny to be a racist, right" then closed my mic
Sorry if this is too long, but I wanted to get this off my chest. And I also know that this is really common across games, and especially shooters, but this has just affected me, as it is the first time it happened to me
