To the people who love living in Durham - can you share in a nutshell what makes Bull City special?

Curious if anyone else has had this experience, or if I'm just looking in the wrong places.

I'm 30+, work in hospitality, and moved to Bull City a couple of months ago for a fresh start. Since moving, I've had a hard time finding unique, creative, or slightly offbeat things to do that *aren't* centered on food & bev or a pretty expensive night out.

I've lived in similarly sized (and larger) cities where it was easier to stumble into random dance nights, underground events, DIY art spaces, pop-ups, or just unexpected experiences. I've checked out salsa nights at Velvet Hippo, the farmers market, Bulls games, etc and they're fun, but they just feel more like the standard city offerings.

I'm genuinely wondering if I'm looking in the wrong places. Everything happens while I'm working; this is just how Durham's social scene is.

This definitely isn't meant as a diss to Durham—I'm honestly trying to figure out what I'm missing. I love dancing, weird little events, trying new places, meeting creative people, and discovering things that aren't necessarily on the main tourist radar.

If you've been here a while, where should I be looking?
