Why do Germans drag their entire kitchen to every new apartment instead of leaving it there?

Mieten

it’s kind of weird how uncommon built in kitchens are in german rentals, and when I look at how many different kitchen companies there are in NRW I can kinda guess why, but still

if you don’t own your place, who the hell actually enjoys dragging their whole kitchen along every time they move and just hoping it somehow fits the new flat? mine is 2.70 m wide with a 30 cm base cabinet, so the chance it’ll fit perfectly in the next place is like low single digits at best. if I move out of here, this kitchen is definitely staying.

so where do all the other kitchens go? even if germans are totally obsessed with kitchens (which I can totally imagine, someone has to keep all those kitchen showrooms alive), that still doesn’t explain why everyone’s apparently fine with eventually stuffing their custom kitchen into some flat it’s not made for. the whole point of going to a kitchen studio is that it fits perfectly, right?

in general there are a bunch of moving related things I just don’t get (like why is there basic service for electricity and water, but not for internet? who is genuinely okay with maybe having to go a few days without internet when they move?), but the kitchen thing really stands out for me.
