Course Design and Ideal Par 3 Distance

From a design perspective, what is your ideal par 3 club? I feel like a good par 3 is an iron shot, maybe 5i or 6i. For me that's ~165 yards from senior tees.

A local course has a par 3 hole that plays 188 yards from the senior tees (199 from blue/mens, 222 from black/back tees). This has me reaching for my 3w to hero shot it on the green (never happens), or needing to lay up.

I actually enjoy super short par 3s too. While renovating a hole, they had a temporary tee box that played 60 yards to an elevated green with bunkers in front. A bit too long and it rolls off the back side. A bit too short and you're in some steep bunkers.
