Unconventional ways to brush your dog

So I have a rescue that absolutely hates getting brushed. Its such a hot summer, he appears to have twice the amount of dead fur than last year and our house is full of fur for so long already I begin to hear the vacuum cleaner in my sleep. He is so scared of the brush even tough we tried for 2 years slowly introducing it to him, its just traumatising for him. He is ok to be touched everywhere but not for long on the butt. I need unconventional ideas because nothing like those brushing gloves or anything works to fool him.
